The Lolita film that we watched first (the black and white one) focuses on Quilty a lot more than Humbert. Why do you think that? Do you feel its true that Quilty is suppose to be the main character of the movie? How is Quilty different from this film and the novel?
The Lolita that we watched first focuses on Quilty a lot more than Humbert because we got to see why Humbert reached his breaking point with Quilty. Quilty was full of disguises, and how we all saw could be different. I feel it isn't true that Quilty is supposed to be the main character because we are so focused on Humbert's version of Quilty. Humbert is the main character because the basic focus of the movie was the relationship between Humbert and Lolita, not Lolita and Quilty. Quilty is portrayed differently from film to novel. In the novel Quilty is portrayed as a more serious character, while in the movie is seen as a comedic character. Quilty seems to have split personalities in the movie, while in the novel he has the personality of only being a harsh character. In the end Quilty is still seen as ruthless in both the film and the novel.
